Assistant Brand Manager (Freelance)
The Assistant Brand Manager will assist the Licensing Director to manage relationships with licensors and domestic print partners, and ensure Azuki publishes high-quality manga.
This is a part-time contract position, with a potential for promotion to full-time work in the future. Azuki is a fast-moving startup environment, and ideal candidates will be able to operate independently to creatively solve problems. You will work directly under the Licensing Director.
This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities:
- Submit requests for approval of translated manga, marketing assets, and more to licensors
- Keep track of approval schedules and follow up on delayed requests to ensure they get done
- Put together presentations for new projects to present to licensors
- Proactively identify potential roadblocks to hitting release date targets, and work with licensors, partners, and Azuki staff to find solutions to them
Required Skills & Experience:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Familiarity with digital publishing/media applications, including Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, and/or Clip Studio Paint
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- JLPT 1, 2, or equivalent experience
- Proficient in business Japanese
- Familiarity with manga licensing contracts and rights management best practices
- Experience in manga/comics/book production and/or licensing
- Keeps abreast of changes in the manga industry and community, including sales numbers and cultural trends
- Avid reader of manga

Content Assistant (Freelance)
This is an internal-facing role in which you will provide istrative/content to the Production & Content Operations Manager. Ideal candidates will be able to operate independently to creatively solve problems.
This is a part-time contractor position at a small, fast-moving startup that is paid on a monthly basis.
This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities:
- Process & organize content files on Google Drive and Dropbox
- Handle day-to-day file management for the Azuki localization program on weekends, holidays, and as needed
- Create review copies for localized series
- Create EPUB files for localized series using in-house EPUB generation software
- Split volumes of manga into individual chapters
- Edit metadata on the Azuki CMS
Required skills and experience:
- Meticulous and detail-oriented
- Great at meeting deadlines
- Strong written communication skills
- Avid reader of manga that is familiar with manga publishing conventions
- Access to a computer that can run macOS
Preferred skills and experience:
- Experience working with content for publishing/entertainment companies, especially companies in the fandom space
- Prior localization experience (in any part of the localization pipeline)
- Familiarity with using the command line (bash scripting experience is a plus)
- Familiarity with Google Sheets formulas
- Working proficiency in Japanese is a plus
